Harriman Teams Up with Caritas for the “Journey Together Mentorship Program”
Harriman has recently partnered with the Caritas Integrated Family Service Centre – Aberdeen to launch an initiative named the "Journey Together Mentorship Program”. This program aims to address the growing challenges faced by family caregivers in Hong Kong, focusing on the needs of underprivileged families while fostering care and community support. Under collaborative spirit between Harriman’s Volunteer Team and Caritas’ professional social workers, the program design covers elements of daily life that related to property management. Its goal is to provide underprivileged youngsters with positive mentorship and learning opportunities while enhancing the professional skills of frontline property management staff and strengthening the connection between the property management industry and the community.
First Event: "Meet the Companion Dogs"
The first activity, themed "Meet the Companion Dogs", invited professional trainers from the Hong Kong Seeing Eye Dog Services to introduce the role of guide dogs and how they serve as the "second pair of eyes" for individuals with visual impairments. On the day of the event, the trainers brought along companion dogs, part of the guide dog family, to interact with participants, allowing them to engage closely and learn how to interact with guide dogs properly.
Through this event, Harriman’s frontline staff enhanced their ability to assist visually impaired individuals, ensuring they receive convenience and respect within Harriman-managed properties. Meanwhile, participating youngster gained a deeper understanding of the needs of visually impaired individuals and learned how to show care and support. The event also strengthened Harriman's mission to further sustain the status of a caring organization, showcasing its dedication to inclusivity and care for visually impaired individuals and society as a whole.
Second Event: "Exploring O‧Park 1: Discovering Food Waste Recycling"
The second activity guided participants, including our property management professionals, to visit O‧Park 1, Hong Kong’s first resources recovery center. They explored how food waste is transformed into renewable energy through a waste-to-energy generation plant. This event aimed to educate participants on the importance of food waste recycling and encourage them to bring this knowledge back to their communities.
By participating, Harriman hoped to enhance our professional expertise in food waste recycling and waste reduction. Simultaneously, participating youngsters were introduced to the concepts of environmental protection and sustainable development, inspiring them to contribute to Hong Kong’s green future.
Final Event: "Discovering Nature’s Wonders at Kadoorie Farm"
The finale of the program took participants to Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden. Through guided tours and interactive workshops, participants explored the wonders of nature and learned with personal insight about the importance of conservation.
Harriman’s Volunteer Team extended their care with underprivileged families through activities, helping children understand the value of environmental conservation. The aim was to nurture a sense of respect and love for nature among the younger generation from an early age.
Caring for the Community, Moving Forward Together
Harriman remains committed to achieving a win-win for both the company and the community. Through the "Journey Together Mentorship Program", Harriman has not only provided participating youngsters with companionship and diverse learning experiences but also enhanced the professional knowledge and social responsibility of its property management professionals.
Looking ahead, Harriman will continue taking meaningful actions to support the community, and creating more positive energy to the communities by all means.
